MEES: from Band E to a C-equivalent by 2030

It is already unlawful to let a domestic property rated F or G, and the government confirmed in January 2026 that privately rented homes in England and Wales must reach a C-equivalent standard by 1 October 2030. Roughly 60% of rented homes sit at D or below — and a property that reaches C before 1 October 2029 stays compliant until that certificate expires, which is the strongest argument for starting now.
